Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between edge grain and end grain cutting boards?

Edge grain board are perfect for everyday cutting, light to medium use, they are made by gluing together the long sides of the board in a parallel pattern. The boards are usually thinner and the grain is more linear, horizontal pattern. Edge grain boards are the most available boards in the industry due to more economical and easier to make than end grain boards.

Edge grain boards will end up having cut marks which you can minimize by using our TWA Cutting Board Oils or TWA Conditioner for longer lasting protection. Those boards tending to dull your knifes faster than end grain boards.

End grain boards are mainly done by gluing end pieces together and characterized by a checkerboard pattern, seeing the rings of the trees. Those boards are longer lasting as they can be sanded and restored easier than edge grain boards. End grain boards have a higher durability, better for heavier cutting and easier on your knives. They are more expensive, but worth for every cooking hobbyist and should last for decades!
